So we went to the Salvation Army on Thanksgiving to volunteer serving dinner and I must say it was not what I was expecting. First of all, for some reason, there were a lot of older Chinese ladies. I mean like A LOT. Secondly, I saw a guy with a iPhone - and not like a knock-off or an older model or anything like that. It was really weird.
Anyways...
I thought it was going to be one of those buffet style dinners but it was more like a restaurant where the servers brought out plates of dinner for the guests. I bussed the tables and helped out the servers and whatnot for the morning but for the rest of the day, I ended up scooping stuffing onto plates in the kitchen area. Fun times.
My sister was talking to one guy who came in and he told her that he ended up on the streets when his company went bankrupt. He was in real estate. It was really sad. There were a couple of kids who came in too - most were surprisingly upbeat and cheery and talked a lot to the servers - but one kid cried and bawled when they had to leave. I felt so bad for him. :(
All in all, it was an interesting experience. My feet hurt for the next two days but it was definitely something I'll do again.

I wouldn't advise any actor thinking of his career to come out
He had Hollywood at his feet at the age of 25. So why has Rupert Everett never lived up to that early promise? Here, the outspoken actor talks about homophobia, deranged A-listers and why Madonna isn't speaking to him

Has Alanis Morissette finally been won over head over feet?
The Canadian singer was seen shopping for some jewelry with her new boyfriend at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, CA on Saturday (November 28). Looking happier than ever, Alanis was all smiles as she hunted for some gold and diamonds before brunching with her latest beau.

Beyoncé has revealed that she had trouble convincing her label to release her first album.
The star recorded her hugely-successful debut solo LP Dangerously In Love in 2003 after departing from Destiny's Child. However, the singer has claimed that it almost remained unreleased, Contactmusic reports.
She said: "In 2003. I had my first solo album. But when I played it through for my record label, they told me I didn't have one hit on my album.
"I guess they were kinda right, I had five. 'Dangerously In Love', 'Naughty Girl', 'Me, Myself and I', 'Baby Boy' and 'Crazy In Love'."

Here's a great piece at ESPN about Toronto Maple Leafs and U.S. Olympic Team General Manager Brian Burke, and his son Brendan's coming out:

"Your dad thinks through everything. Dad is big, confident and continuously radiates a persona that is rough, gruff, unrelenting and unapologetic. He has a cold, expressionless poker face straight out of a Clint Eastwood movie. Yet, he does this all with the most subtle of Irish smirks that says there is more behind this thick skin.
" And there is. He calls you "Moose" because you have always been a big kid. He cares very deeply about you and your happiness. You say he has always been there when you needed him. And he has a great sense of humor. Imagine that. But on this night in 2007, you are petrified of your dad. Because you, Brendan Burke, at 19 years old, are about to tell your dad, Mr. Testosterone, that you are gay."

Moz on Desert Island Discs - download it here (41 min)
MORRISSEY has revealed his thoughts about life, death, suicide and being alone, in a frank interview.
In the interview for today’s (Sunday) edition of Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, presenter Kirsty Young asked him: “Have you thought about being in control of your death?”
He replied: “Yes, I have. And I think this self-destruction is honourable. I always thought it was. It’s an act of great control and I understand people who do it.”
Later asked which luxury he would take to make his life more bearable on the mythical island, Morrissey, 50, laughed:
“Well, I would either take a bed, because I like to go to bed. Or I would take a bag of sleeping pills because I might want to make a quick exit. I would really take the bed, I think, because going to bed is the highlight of everybody’s day. I like to be hidden and I like to sink – it’s the brother of death. It means we can switch our brains off when we go to bed and forget about ourselves.”

Excerpt from Moz's Autobiography
"An excerpt from Morrissey's forthcoming autobiography appears in the book that accompanies the Tate St Ives exhibition The Dark Monarch, Magic and Modernity in British Art. It's a piece called The Bleak Moor Lies about a chance encounter on Saddleworth Moor in 1989."

Hello.
I'm relatively new to Heroes and altogether new to this group.
I thought I'd start by offering a story. It's light and fluffy because 1) everybody seems so sad around here lately, and 2) fluff is relatively easy to write.
Hope you all can enjoy it somewhat!
Title: A Small Hitch
Author: Rat-chan
Fandom: Heroes
Characters/Pairings: Nathan/Peter
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 1081
Spoilers: None whatsoever
Warnings: implied incestuous sexual situations, more heavily implied very light bondage
Disclaimer: Heroes belongs to Tim Kring, NBC, and all the people who distribute it worldwide
Author's note: This is my first Heroes fic at all as well as my first fic in a long time. It's fluff, 'cause fluff's easy.
Summary: A glimpse, past and present, of the ways Peter gets Nathan to do what he wants.

I haven't bought an advent calendar yet. Eeep. Must make sure to do that before, errr, Tuesday.
Once it's December I don't feel remotely guilty about throwing myself into the Christmas spirit. It doesn't feel quite right in November, wrapping presents and writing cards, but once it's December...oh yeah. The decorations will go up, the Christmas music will be playing non stop, I'll be wearing my reindeer socks, eating a chocolate a day from my advent calendar, counting down the days...
I love Christmas.
Which reminds me, Christmas card post. If I don't have your address yet, go and leave a comment. I'll be sending them in a week or so, to make sure they get there in time.

Hattie Collins
There are many places you might expect to find an A-list star in Hollywood, but a scruffy dance studio at the wrong end of the Walk of Fame isn’t the first that springs to mind. The homeless and the addicted hustle the star-spotting tourists who wander wide-eyed into souvenir shops selling Michael Jackson memorabilia, utterly unaware that, two floors above them, his youngest sister is rehearsing the choreography for her new single, Make Me.
“I love the natural light,” says Janet Jackson, nodding towards the huge windows that look out onto the gritty streets below. She's devoid of make-up and dressed in black tracksuit bottoms and a grey cashmere top, a low-key look that matches the location. There is no big entourage in tow, either, just her personal assistant and a publicist. It’s surprising to find such a huge celebrity in such understated circumstances, particularly given the intense scrutiny the Jackson family is under following the loss of its most famous member in June this year.
“People don’t really know, they don’t look in,” she says, staring back to the boulevard once more. “Nobody notices.” Brief respite, perhaps — since she appeared on stage with the Jackson 5 at the age of seven, all people have done is peer portentously at Janet Damita Jo Jackson’s professional and private life. “Certain aspects [of fame] aren’t easy, but I’ve been fortunate,” the 43-year-old says of life in front of the lens. “There are always paparazzi, but there are restaurants or places that they don’t know you frequent. And the people there are loyal, so they stay quiet.”

Always making sure to fit in quality family time, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale took their son Kingston to the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday (November 28).
The No Doubt frontwoman and her Bush rocker hubby both looked casually stylish as they escorted their eldest son in to see “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”.
As previously reported by Gossip Center, recent reports tell that Gwen is cracking the whip on the owners of a Minnesota bar who have been playing her music without the proper license.
Stefani (as well as the rock band Bon Jovi) has filed a lawsuit against Sally’s Saloon and Eatery in Minneapolis, asking them to stop playing her music without the legal right to do so.
